Promote
higher education
Every
parent has dreams for his or her children. Most parents dream that
our children will grow to be happy, kind, responsible adults who
are able to reach their fullest potential. One way to nurture a
child's fullest potential is to provide for his or her college education.
However, for some families, the dream of a college education for
their children seems unattainable.
The
"I Have a Dream" program helps children from low-income
areas reach their educational and career goals by providing a long-term
program of mentoring, tutoring and enrichment with an assured opportunity
for higher education.
Local
projects adopt a grade from an elementary school or an age group
from a public housing development and work with this group of children
and their families, called "The Dreamers" from their elementary
school years through college.
This
program has served over 13,500 students in 27 states since its inception
two decades ago. Most "Dreamers" who go to college are
the first members of their families to do so.
