How to Raise Empathic Kids and Make a Difference in the Lives of
Others
Create
Storm Supply Boxes
Storms
can be scary, especially for elderly people who live alone. You
and your children can create Emergency Storm Supply Boxes for people
in your community and help keep them safe during a storm.
Here's
how:
Gather emergency supplies such as non-perishable canned food, a
can opener, bottled water, a flashlight, batteries, a blanket, a
battery operated radio, and put them in a plastic container or sturdy
box. Be sure to include a list of names and phone numbers of local
utility companies (gas, water, electric) as well as other emergency
resources. Young children might enjoy decorating the box to add
their personal touch.
Consider
asking local community merchants to donate some of the supply items
for this project. Your neighbors, church or synagogue members and
friends may want to donate supplies, as well.
Call
your local house of worship or Visiting Nurse's Association and
ask if they would distribute these storm supply boxes to people
in need.
