Sound Off: Your Child's Eating Habits
"I
am pretty laid back about what my kids eat. I offer them healthy
meals but if they don't want what I make, I don't dwell on it. I
think everything evens out in the end. A few nights of macaroni
and cheese and oreos won't be the end of the world." -Julie,
Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Kids' ages: 14, 11, 7
"My
husband and I made a decision to bring only healthy foods in our
home. If the kids don't like what we're eating one night, they can
eat whatever they want from the pantry and we'll know that it's
still good for them." -Marni, Baltimore, Maryland. Kids' ages:
9, 6
"Our
3-year-old is going through a picky phase. We're trying to not to
make an issue of it. She's snacking more than she's eating. I'm
hoping she'll get back into some good eating habits when she's a
little older." -Daniel, New York. Kids' ages: 3, 8 months.
"We're
pretty lucky. We eat healthy foods and so do our kids." -Debby,
Chicago, Illinois. Kids' ages: 7, 4, 1
"My
12 year old is just starting to eat healthy. She's been living on
chicken nuggets and pizza for years. Her friends have definitely
been a good influence on her eating habits. She asked for sushi
the other night!" -Michelle, Hollywood, Florida. Kids' ages:
12, 7.
"I
always include my kids in cooking the meals. They love to help and
they are more likely to eat the food when they help make it."
-Lori, Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Kids' ages: 5, 4.
"For
picky eaters, try giving choices. Put all kinds of healthy food
on the table and let them choose. That's worked for us." -Liz,
Miami, FL Kids' ages: 10, 5, 3.
"My
son eats the same things every day. He won't try anything new. I'm
hoping he'll outgrow this." -Beth, San Diego, California Kid's
age: 4
"My
daughters eat everything." -Julia, Ft. Lauderdale, FL Kids'
ages: 7, 10.
